🧭 The 4D AI Fluency Framework
This curriculum is built around the 4D AI Fluency Framework, developed by Professors Rick Dakan and Joseph Feller in collaboration with Anthropic. The framework defines four interconnected competencies for effective, efficient, ethical, and safe AI interaction:
Delegation
Setting goals and deciding whether, when, and how to engage AI. Choosing the right mode — automation, augmentation, or agency.
→ Modules 1, 4, 6, 9
Description
Effectively describing goals to prompt useful AI outputs. Role prompting, chain-of-thought, few-shot examples, and structured instructions.
→ Modules 2, 7, 12
Discernment
Accurately assessing AI outputs. Fact-checking, detecting hallucinations, evaluating reasoning, and the Description-Discernment Loop of iterative refinement.
→ Modules 3, 8, 9
Diligence
Taking responsibility for what we do with AI. Ethics, governance, data privacy, prompt security, transparency, and documenting AI contributions.
→ Modules 6, 11, 12, 13
